Sunset
Park abounds in religious institutions. With a community as
diverse as ours one can find every flavor spiritual preference
that one can think of. We will be using these pages to highlight
the hundreds of religious institutions that one can find in
our community. One can find everything from Mosques to Synagogues,
from Muslim to Budhist, from Catholic to Protestant here. We
begin by highlighting in pictures the local Catholic churches
that served the earliest immigrants to Sunset Park.

The basilica Our Lady of Perpetual Help (established
1893) on 60th street and 5th Avenue is the largest church in
Brooklyn and where the Archbishop of the diosece of Brooklyn
is normally crowned.

Michael's Roman Catholic Church (established 1870) is on the
corner of 4th Avenue and 42nd. street.

Agatha (established 1912) is on 7th Avenue and 48th street.
